Unveiling History: The Baizeau Villa Exhibition

Mark your calendars for an extraordinary architectural journey! From January 15th to May 15th, 2024, a captivating

architecture exhibition will grace the cultural space "32Bis" in downtown Tunis. Organized by Villa Baizeau in Carthage, a masterpiece by Le Corbusier and Jeanneret, in collaboration with La Boîte and the Le Corbusier Foundation, this event promises to be a celebration of architectural brilliance and cultural heritage.

Partnering with esteemed institutions such as the National School of Architecture and Urbanism of Tunis (ENAU) and the Institute of Higher Commercial Studies of Carthage, under the auspices of the University of Carthage (UCAR), Tunisair, Le Club INDIGO, Souris Collection, and Boutique Hotel Dar Ben Gacem, this exhibition is set to be a ground breaking exploration into the world of Villa Baizeau.

Curated under the expert guidance of Italian architectural historian Roberto Gargiani, the exhibition and its accompanying catalogue will shed light on the historical significance, contextual relevance, and the unique relationship between Le Corbusier and Lucien Baizeau. With an array of esteemed authors contributing to this endeavor, including Roberto Gargiani, Anna Rosellini, Mohamed Ali Berhouma, Tim Benton, Jean-Louis Cohen, Jacques Lucan, Sabine Massenet, and many others, visitors can expect a comprehensive and insightful exploration of this architectural gem.

For four months, the exhibition will be open to the public, providing an opportunity for enthusiasts and scholars alike to immerse themselves in the rich history and visionary design of Villa Baizeau. From Monday to Friday, visitors can explore from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm, and on Saturdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm.

But the exhibition is just the beginning! A series of events is planned to complement the showcase, including an exhibition of contemporary art, a symposium at the School of Architecture and Urbanism of Tunis (ENAU), architectural tours, activities for younger visitors, and a series of film screenings centered around architecture.

The Baizeau Villa in Carthage stands as a testament to Le Corbusier's innovative spirit and his enduring influence on architectural discourse. Built between 1928 and 1930 on Sainte-Monique hill in Carthage, this architectural marvel is the only project that Le Corbusier designed in Africa. Despite its nationalization after independence, the villa remains a source of fascination for architecture enthusiasts, serving today as an archive for General Intelligence.

Join us as we unravel the mysteries and marvels of Villa Baizeau in Carthage. This exhibition, organized by the Le Corbusier Foundation, represents a significant milestone in the preservation, understanding, and dissemination of Le Corbusier's extraordinary legacy.
